In the Federal Republic of Germany waste recovery is regulated by law.
The Ordinance on Avoidance and Recovery of Packaging Waste, the Recycling and Waste Management Act and the EU Packaging Directive are the basis for the recycling of packaging waste.

There are three recovery options for plastic packaging and waste from yellow bags:

Mechanical recycling into regranulate or finished products

Feedstock recycling where mainly mixed plastic waste is used in the production of steel and methanol, and

Energy recovery where used plastics serve as substitute for fossil fuels in industry and power plants.

Compared to other processes mechanical recycling - "new products from old ones" - is proving to be particularly eco-efficient. Currently, 53 percent of the plastic packaging from the yellow bags are made into new products.

Hahn Kunststoffe GmbH processes 12,000 t of used plastics per year into finished products by means of mechanical recycling. From our material hanit® we manufacture more than 1,000 different finished parts, profiles and technical products.
